Let's build collective knowledge and see through all the fictitious capital we have today.
Hi subscribers! Thank you all for your readership & amazing feedback thus far. It has been a while since the last piece but the next newsletter edition will be coming out tomorrow.
Before that, a short update on the newsletter itself.
Over the past few weeks, I have been thinking a lot about the role of this newsletter in an environment where knots seem to be unraveling almost everyday. Just over the past few days, we have seen:
US Fed Chair J. Powell talk about how at least 2 million layoffs will be needed to control inflation
A bank run on Silicon Valley Bank, a major bank for Bay Area startups that has ~$200B deposits. It has lost 60% value in just a couple of days (leading to a brewing crisis in at least other regional banks)
Biden’s Energy Secretary announced that: “We know that oil and gas will remain part of our energy mix for years to come [till mid century]”
India announced the possibility of buying Russian oil in Rubles, rather than the US$
Since the pieces in this newsletter are centered on explaining the building blocks of our system and providing a framework through which to understand current events, I think it might be valuable to also have a space to talk about things as they happen. It is also a great way to learn from each other’s areas of interest & expertise!
📢 To that end, I hope you will join the Fictitious Capital subscriber chat.
The goal of this subscriber-only space is to:
Share & discuss interesting events as they happen
Have everyone share interesting essays, podcasts, etc.
Do Q&A on newsletter content
Receive feedback
Build communal knowledge from different geographies, perspectives, etc.
Even if you’re not keen to actively engage, I will start by using it as a way to share interesting content I read/listen to.
To join the chat, you’ll need to download the Substack app, now available for both iOS and Android. Chats are sent via the app, not email, so turn on push notifications so you don’t miss conversation as it happens.
How to get started
Download the app by clicking this link or the button below. Substack Chat is now available on both iOS and Android.
